Description

After receiving over 4 feet of snow in a week, Mt. Baker reveals herself and all her glory. A welcome sight after arriving at Artist Point the evening before, completely covered in clouds, the landscape was an absolutely blank white canvass, without definition, and incredibly disorienting. There is nothing more rewarding that waking up to beautiful skies after a disappointing sunset.

There are so many wonderful things about this shot, I don't quite know where to begin!

First and foremost though I have to say that as a native of the Pacific Northwest myself, this really captures one of the beauties found in this part of the world. I can practically taste the cold, crisp air; the colors are so bright and brilliant. The white reflecting the blue of the sky so that everything seems to be slightly 'aglow'.

The framing is wonderful. Not only do the trees set up a wonderful outer frame, but I love how thanks to the natural light of the sun things go from dark to light as one moves from the left of the photo to the right. So that the focal point truly is the beautiful, pristine top of Mt. Baker itself.

I can't tell where the clouds start and the snow ends...and I love it that way. This almost seems taken out of another world. No sign of human life anywhere. A true capture of nature in its purest form.

Wonderful, wonderful shot. Great job to the artist!
