do you use any filters for these kinds of pictures? I debating on buying some and am unsure of which would be best. do you know if a UV filter makes that big of a difference?

No filters here. Really, the only filters that a person needs (in my opinion) is a polarizer, a neutral density filter, and a graduated neutral density filter. No effects filters, no UV filters. Putting a UV filter is pretty much the worst thing you can do to your lenses. There is no reason to put cheap glass on an expensive lens. If you want to protect your lens, make sure to always use the lens shade/hood.
